PWA Pozo day 1

Yo!

Yesterday was the first day f the PWA world cup here in Pozo. That meant registration, opening ceremony and then waiting for wind. Unfortunately there was no action and at 16.00 they called it  a day. Today it seems to be similar to yesterday but you never know with this place.

Now I know who I'm up against in the trails. I'm in the first heat of the contest together with Alessio Stillrich (Fanatic / North), Tuomo Naalisvaara (Starboard / Severne) and Florian Jung (RRD / Gun Sails / Maui Ultra Fins). I will do my absolute best to go through!

Will keep you posted,
Mac

PWA Pozo is coming up

Yo!

Tomorrow the PWA world cup kicks off here in Pozo, Gran Canaria. I'm stoked and can't wait for tomorrow! It has allways been a dream for me to compete against the best sailors in the world and I do really appriciate every minute of it! This year the mens fleet has been cut down from 48 to 32 sailors, so for me to get into the main event will be through the trails. Due to the major cut down the trails is stacked with sailors that rips hard, so it's going to be a tough one!

Anyway, I am super motivated and do really look forward to do my best here in Pozo!

Will keep you updated,
Mac

Here are some shoots from my last decent session before the comp:

Pozo training

Yo!

After my latest post we had like three more days of solid wind here in Pozo. But yesterday was pretty much a lay day and today seems to be calm too. It's a bit frustrating as I felt that I really was starting to sail good in the strong wind. My jumps were getting higher, my riding more aggressive and I was trying some new nice moves.
My gear is working great and my body is in good shape after working out a lot during the winter, so hopefully the wind and waves comes back soon so I can practice some more before the trails to the PWA event here in Gran Canaria kicks off!

Stay tuned for more,
Mac

Proper Pozo

Yo!

After a pretty lame first week of my trip to Gran Canaria, have the famous wind here in Pozo finally kicked in.
After spending my last three last trips on Maui I'm not really used to be sailing full on port tack. But I am getting there. I have mostly been on 4,0 Firelight and it has been powered up to say the least. But I really like the range of that sail, it does not matter how over powered you are, the sail is still super stable and keeps the profile nicely! As well as my 76 and 84 Quatro Tempo Twin is super calm while speeding towards the ramps, turns tight and are super stable sliding through takas. The moves is comming together more and more. Backies, takas, stalled forwards is there and I am really close to land the wave 360. Today it is windy again and I will work on to get more hight and on the tweaked pushloops. It is a pretty weird feeling to know all the moves in starboard tack, but when doing them on port it is like I never have tried them before...

Time to shred,
Mac

Big news

Yo,

A lot of stuff is going on at the moment. Tomorrow I'm off to Pozo and I am super exited for the trip! I have also bought new camera. It is a Canon EOS 600D with a 400 lens. So Hopefully I'll get some sweet footage from Pozo to be able to do a nice edit for ya'll!

More news is that I have got two new sponsors! Björn Borg and Dr. Martens are supporting me this season. I do really look forward to our collaboration and future together, and it feels great to represent those brands!

One more thing I'll announce today is the launch of my brand new website markusrydberg.com. There you can see my latest videos and pictures, blog updates, Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter.
I am super happy with how it came out and you are more then welcome to check it out!

There you go, a lot of news in this post. Next post will be from Pozo, hopefully with some nice action shots!

Quiet Sweden

Hi,

Sweden has not really delivered wind since I came back from Maui. I have had just 5 sessions on the water. 4 of them has been freestyle sessions and only one in waves. That day was pretty good though. I went south because of the northerly winds and got to sail Stranninge. A nice point break which invited to really nice jumping, because you could blast downwind from the inside and then hit the ramps. Super fun!

5 sessions in a month and a half is pretty bad, But I'm off to Gran Canaria in the end if June so hopefully I'll get some nice action then..

This weekend I have been in Örebro for my cousins graduation. Was great to catch up with all my relatives and eat the amazing food they had during the party! I have also squeezed in some workouts during the stay here. Been running and doing some nice obstacle course practice. I feel in really good shape at the moment and I am ready to go and sail full on in Pozo, can't wait!

Preparation

Yo!

Last week we had some nice wind here in Sweden but it has been super quiet since then. After being a month on Maui and being able to sail almost every day, it feels a bit frustrating when there is no wind. Well well, you need to take advantage of the situation and it has been a perfect chance to prepare my body by eating healthy and work out loads in the gym. At the moment I feel in really good shape and can't wait till next time I can hit the water and shred!

Covering the news paper

Yo!

Today I was covering the news paper Hallands Nyheter, and a feature article about my windsurfing with focus on competitions and the PWA world tour. They will follow my season and write about my results after every competition. I'm stoked about this and hope all 50.000 readers will enjoy following my season!

Reality

Yo!
Since I'm back in Sweden the era of boardshorts is over. We have had two days of wind this week and today seems to be winy aswell. It is still really cold in the water here, but it's not to bad.

I have had two freestyle sessions. I am a bit rusty in the moves but the flakas and spocks is still comming easy, I am now working on shakas to be able to do backside 360's easier and to even get some air during the move. I think it is a difficult move, so I'm working hard to nail it...

Here is a few gopro shots from yesterdays session:

Interviewed by kulingvarning.nu

Hi!

A few weeks ago I was interviewed by Fredrik and David from kulingvarning.nu. It was really nice having them in my home talking about the past, precense and future! I'm stoked about how it came out and we were lucky to get wind the very same day to shoot some action...

The duo behind MacG Productions, Markus Rydberg and Gustav Häggström are the future of windsurfing, at least according to us here at World Wide Windsurfing.

Not only are they super talented, but they live and breathe windsurfing every waking hour of the day, getting out on the water whenever time permits, and communicating and sharing their passion for the sport across the world using today’s multimedia and social media channels. They are what we would call the perfect ambassadors for windsurfing.

At World Wide Windsurfing we have followed the progress of Markus and Gustav for some time now and we strongly believe in their future and would like to be a part of it. Through the support determined within the contract we hope we can contribute to their progress and help them on their way as they pursue careers within the sport. We also see an immense value of having sailors like Markus and Gustav representing World Wide Windsurfing across the world and giving us a direct line into the happenings of the windsurfing community, whether it is on a local or global level.

We are extremely happy to start collaborating with Markus and Gustav and wish them great success in 2013.

Winter workout

Yo!

Now when the winter time really has kicked in here in Sweden, it's a perfect time to hit the gym and prepare my body for the upcoming season. I usually do five sessions at the gym per week. Two are running sessions when I run about 7 km, in the other sessions I focus on my strengh.

My workout program looks something like this:
Squats with 40-50 kilos weight, 3x12
Lunge with 40-50 kilos weight, 3x12
Pull-ups with 5 extra kilos, 3x12
high-pulleys with 50 kilos weight, 3x12
Dumbell swings with 10-15 kilo dumbells, 3x12
Back extetions, 3x20
Sit-ups. 3x20

Offcourse it's not allways an adrenaline rush to hit the gym, But I always listen to music wich reminds me of windsurfing and that makes it easier! Here is my workout playlist on spotify for ya'll to use if you like it.

See you out there
Markus
Pull-ups is a super good exercise for windsurfing in my opinion!

First session and planning

Yo!
I had my first session about a week ago at my home spot Läjet. 2013 welcomed me and the other locals with sick conditions, full power in 4,5 and shreddable waves. I had super fun and can't wait to next session!

Other than sailing and fitness training I am planning a lot for the comming season. I am very motivated to make 2013 my best year so far and I have a good feeling about it!

See you out there,
Mac

Winter windsurfing

Yo!

Now winter has really hit Sweden. Cold, a lot of snow and christmas preperations. Last week me and Lil G went out for a session. Conditions were'nt great but it was a cool experience to sail in -3 and snow! We got some filming done and will start editing a new MacG video soon... Hopefully I can sail a bit more before 2013 kicks in!

The QU4D

Hot Sails Maui has released a new sail called the QU4D. It'S a four batten compact wave sail. I tried the demo sails this spring, and I can imagine that the production sails rips!

Here is a full press release of the sail:

Hot Sails Maui - Introducing the QU4D Press Info

Overview
The QU4D is our new super compact 4 batten wave sail designed for radical and aggressive riders for use in a variety of wave conditions. Whether you enjoy the light and compact feel as you crank your bottom turn or rotate quicker in the air thanks to the shorter luff we are confident that you will ride harder, faster and more radical than ever before. The QU4D incorporates our super light C1295 laminate and ODL09 Technora which is combined with our new SlamLam® reinforced window making this a super strong wave sail which will take a pounding while remaining very light.

Rigging
Designed to rig on short masts the overall rig weight is reduced further. You will only need a 370 to rig 5.2 through 4.7 and a 340 for the smaller sizes. The 4.3 can be rigged on either a 370 or a 340, this will depend partly on the sailor weight and what you have available, similar is true of the 5.2, which can be rigged on either a 370 or 400. The boom lengths have been kept down to promote easily handling, in fact each size has a boom shorter than the Firelight of a similar size.

Colors
At the time of launch we are only releasing one color option, this is the TEAM Ed. (C1).

Sail Features
• 4 battens
• Super Compact Shaping (SCS)
• Super light C1295 laminate and ODL09 Technora
• SlamLam® reinforced window
• Hybrid Sleeve combining the reduced weight mast sleeve and Ox Webbing
• Lightweight Crumple Zone
• Symmetrical Batten System (SBS)

100 times

Yo!
Last week I broke my record and had windsurfing session nr 100. Feels great to have had that much time on the water during this year! Hopefully I get some more sessions before 2013, but it is getting colder here in Sweden...

One more nice thing is that the French windsurfing site Windsurfjurnal have shared my video Crave, thanks a lot!

See ya'll out there,
Mac

No wind...

Yo!

It has been kind of quiet here in Sweden lately. Not much wind and when it has been windy I have been working.

When I can't windsurf I do other stuff like editing videos, working out at the gym, playing music and more..

Hope you all will have an awesome weekend!
